Luckily Blessed

Hello Everyone,

Some people are just lucky. However, the only lucky person in my family is usually my younger sister Helen. She went to the casino in Philadelphia, Mississippi a few years ago and won $50,000. When she was a teenager she was all the time winning things off of the radio. Well Monday my daughter got a call from a drawing she had entered and won a $25 gift card to Bed, Bath and Beyond. After she came back from collecting her prize, the same place called my SIL and told him he had won something. Well he won an iPod! The same drawing his mother won a $25 gift card to Chili's. So my BIL went to one of the bingo places over in Jasper and won a Cadillac! He was chosen to get a key and try it in the car. He was the first one to pick his key and the first one to try it. I have never won anything!

That's old envy kicking in. I don't know that emotion too well, it's very rare that I even pay attention to what someone else has, let alone want it. If I do want something bad enough I just usually get it. But you know I don't need a new car. I have a total of 4 vehicles at my disposal. I don't even like Bed, Bath and Beyond. I have a little Sansa that I hardly use so I don't need an iPod. Don't really care about a Chili's gift card. So I guess it is just the fact of winning something. ANYTHING! What is it in our human makeup that makes us like that? Or is it just me?

Psychologically does it make us feel like or think that we may be losers? I have never felt like a loser. Well maybe when our football team doesn't win. But really I have always felt really blessed. I had somewhat of a bad childhood. Not as bad as a lot that I have heard about but it wasn't the Father Knows Best kind of childlhood. My sisters and I sometimes wonder how in the world we made it through without becoming hooked on drugs, in gangs, on the streets or dead. How in the world are we "normal"?

We all had vowed when we had our own children that they would never go through what we did as children. We became strong. Now as adults we are a little hard. Does that make sense? I mean that we are the type of people that feel like if we got through our childhood then anyone can get through a problem they are having. Other than health issues, Lord knows I've been there, everything else is cake. If you can fix it, fix it. If you can't, pray about it. That is basically how I live. I am also proud to report that we all have succeeded in giving our children a good childhood. My daughter will tell you that she had the best childhood ever (well if she's not mad at me that is lol).

This post took a turn I didn't even expect. I was going to blog about being lucky and then about my lunch with my sisters yesterday. Oh well! Let me just say in closing that me and my family have really been blessed in our lives and that we continue to be blessed. As my sister would say, God is good and that's all the time!

Have a blessed day!

Hi Valerie! I have had my share of luck in life and it isn't much to speak of. (Although I was lucky with my big free find recently)
But the way I see it Luck is just that-luck and blessings are completely different. I would rather have great blessings, and I do! I am so thankful for that! You are also a very blessed girl-thats what really counts!!!

We're all winners in our own way, right?
Although, I wouldn't mind the new car or $50 grand type of winning.

You're time will come!

I cannot believe they all won all those things at once?! Sooooooo weird!

It is strange to note that it seem to be ingrained in our human makeup to feel this. I had this thing growing up because I never ever win anything! Craaazzzy!!!
