Tomorrow is my grandmother's birthday. She was born on February 21, 1927. She passed away on December 30, 2004. All of us surrounded her bed holding her hand and telling her how much we loved her as she passed away. She was conscious right up until she took her last breath. We prayed with her, we laughed with her and we cried with her as she asked if she was dying. I am sure she came into this world with love but I KNOW she left it surrounded by love. As she left this world the last words she heard was all of us telling her we loved her, we would miss her and we would see her soon. Her last words to us were that she loved us all. She was one of the most important people in my life.
Most of my happy memories were with her and my grandfather. I only had one set of grandparents growing up because my father was an orphan. She always told us that she thought she had to be twice the grandmother for us since she was all we had. She filled that job well. My sisters and brothers and I all knew we were special to her. We were her favorites. We never failed to tell her we loved her and she did the same.
My heart is heavy today and it will be tomorrow because I just miss her so much. She was a strong woman. She lived longer than her husband and three of her children. She was the last one to die out of her four sisters and one brother. She was the youngest in her family.
She would get all giddy when we would go visit and tease her about what a cool grandmother she was. She really was too! She loved to shop. That's where my sisters and daughter gets that from. She was constantly late, we were always waiting on her. She did this silly little dance when a song came on she liked. She was so funny looking when she did this. My sister Angie does a real good imitation of it. lol
But I tell you she would go after you like a mad woman if you threatened her loved ones. I have seen her take a broom to my uncles and wear them out. This is when they were grown men! I have seen her stand up to people twice her size if she felt wronged. She also introduced us to a loving God and our Savior. She was quite a woman. I could go on and on about her!
